Do Men Wear Makeup On The Red Carpet

For our first date, James cooked me a summertime feast. Unfortunately, I was allergic to the entire repast and retreated to the bath to game-plan. "Makeup is fluid now," says Peter Philips, creative and epitome director of Dior Makeup. "It's for all genders. We take guys backstage who ask for profile or a little more highlight. 5 years ago, I wouldn't have imagined that."

Of course, men wearing makeup isn't new. Both male and female-identifying rulers of aboriginal Egypt wore eyeliner, and pale face up powder paired with flaming-ruby cheeks was de rigueur in the eighteenth-century French court. Today, as the self-care motion expands to include men (initially through an involvement in skin care), beauty brands take institute an gorging new audience, and major labels have enthusiastically entered the men's dazzler space. Male child de Chanel, a men's-focused makeup line, launched in 2018 with a forehead pencil, foundation, and matte lip balm, and is adding concealer, nail polish, and a three-in-1 eye pencil on September 1st.
